If your New Year’s resolution was to be more creative and start making things, get on it - the clock’s ticking! Crave for curiosities, scour your local flea market, toy stores or jewelry boxes, and get on board with a DIY that supports the theory that time flies!

To create: Coat twelve plastic insects with silver spray paint. Once fully dried, adhere mounting tape to the back of each bug. Mount the clock dial in the desired place and stick each bug around at the correct hour. For extra precision, you may want to mark the hours with a pencil before mounting the bugs.

This DIY gift is super easy, affordable, and heartfelt. It can be done last minute and for any occasion!

All you need is a jar, some paper and pens, double-stick tape, and scissors.
I got my jar for $6 at my local Base Exchange, though I’ve seen them at the ¥100 Store (Japanese $1 Store).

Just simply write short reasons why you love that person on a piece of paper and cut them out individually. Fold it up and add it to the jar. Keep writing until the jar is full! Then make your label and attach it to the jar with double-stick tape. It’s that simple!

You can also alter the idea for any occasion. Write reasons why they are a great mom, dad, sister, brother, etc. You can write memories or things that remind you of them. Whatever you can think of!

And don’t forget to be creative! You can also add pictures, ticket/movie stubs, and other little nick-knacks to personalize it even further. I added cut-out hearts from the same design that I used to make the card (I took them out for the photo).

I made this for my fiance for our anniversary last year and he said it was the most meaningful gift he had ever received! He enjoyed taking out each little paper and unfolding it to see what I had written. It was also nice for me to write them because it gave me a moment to actually sit down and think about the little things that I love about him.

So I encourage you to put away your wallets and make a gift that truly comes from the heart! And please send me a picture if you do, I would love to see it :)

This is such a cute idea. It’s a daily calendar that can be reused each year and gets better the longer you use it. Each day you write the year and something that happened that day like, “(Child’s name) took her first steps.” I imagine the first year wouldn’t be as fun, but imagine how neat it would be in 10 years.
